Hi! My name is Ashley Hines and I am the newest addition to the Egyptian Theatre team. I am a senior at Northern Illinois University studying Political Science and Nonprofit and NGO Studies. After I graduate, I want my work to focus on community building and advocating for those who have been marginalized. In my freetime I enjoy painting bad paintings and annoying my cat.
This semester, my main plans for this internship involve figuring out ways to connect us during the pandemic. Considering we may not be able to gather en masse to adorn fishnets and red lipstick for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it’s important to fill the void in our lives that leaves with other creative outlets. My main projects for this internship include updating the blog with pieces that stress the importance of art in communities as well as providing our patrons with artistic products to keep our hands busy while staying at home.
Thank you to everyone in the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership and the faculty and staff in the Nonprofit and NGO Studies program at NIU who gave me the opportunity to leave my apartment and make a difference in our community this fall. I am looking forward to what the Egyptian Theatre can teach me for my future positions within the sector and to the ways I can help people out during my time here.
