About The Egyptian Theatre
Mission Statement: To share and protect the historical integrity of the theatre as a regional arts center for entertainment and community involvement.
By the late 1970’s the Egyptian Theatre was crumbling and near being demolished. A group of citizens got together in 1978 and formed P.E.T or Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The group’s goal was to not only restore the theatre to its original condition but provide a center for arts and entertainment in the community.
P.E.T.’s vision for the Egyptian Theatre since the beginning has been a community-based one. The success of the Egyptian Theatre has continually been embraced by both the arts community and by the people of DeKalb County. The vision of P.E.T. has grown from just keeping the doors open to opening new doors.
