The historic Egyptian Theatre opened on December 10, 1929 and is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The theatre has been operated and maintained by the non-profit organization Preservation of Egyptian Theatre, Inc. since 1978. Named as one of the top 20 architectural treasures in the State of Illinois and in the top 10 most haunted theatres in Illinois.

Once one of more than 100 Egyptian Theatres around the country, it is now 1 of only 7 left in the United States and the only one east of the Rocky Mountains. The theatre is still a full functioning performing arts center with over 180 different events every year including live events, private events and films.

The theatre offers Boo’ze and Spirits Flashlight Tours to the general public a few times a year and is the location of ongoing paranormal investigations. There are believed to be upwards of six paranormal entities in the Theatre. There is an extensive list of encounters that volunteers, staff, performers, the public, and other investigators have experienced in the theatre as well as pictures, recorded audio, and video.

Private Investigations are allowed full access to the theatre for investigation teams. A theatre representative will be on hand throughout the investigation to provide an initial building tour, history, and documentation of past experiences.
