Let’s Do the Time Warp Again: Celebrating Over a Decade of Rocky Horror at the Egyptian Theatre

There’s a chill in the fall air, a familiar echo of fishnet stockings on stage, and the distinct scent of toast (and maybe a little glitter) wafting through the air. That can only mean one thing—it’s Rocky Horror at the Egyptian Theatre!

For more than a decade, the Egyptian Theatre has proudly been the home of The Rocky Horror Picture Show in DeKalb. Since our very first screening, this cult classic has become a beloved tradition on our stage, growing into something so much bigger than just a movie. With nearly 80 showings and over 16,000 enthusiastic Rocky fans coming through our doors, it’s safe to say that Rocky Horror at the Egyptian has taken on a life of its own.

But there’s one reason—one huge reason—why Rocky Horror is so magical here at the Egyptian: our incredible shadow cast, the Irrational Masters.

This phenomenal group of volunteers pours their heart, soul, and every last sequin into each and every performance. From hand-crafted costumes that dazzle under our historic stage lights to meticulously constructed set pieces that grow more elaborate year after year, the Irrational Masters don’t just perform Rocky Horror—they bring it to life. Their passion is palpable, their dedication unmatched, and their sense of fun? Absolutely infectious.

We want to take a moment to thank the Irrational Masters for the energy, creativity, and heart they bring to our stage. Not only do they bring the iconic characters of Rocky to life with every pelvic thrust, but they’ve also helped shape our showings into uniquely themed events that keep fans coming back year after year. From our Pride-themed Rocky that celebrates love in all forms, to the Corn Fest ‘hoe-down’ editions that bring some country flair to Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s castle, these special performances are a testament to the cast’s imagination and flair for the dramatic.

The Irrational Masters have made Rocky Horror at the Egyptian more than just a screening—it’s a full-blown experience. They’ve helped us foster a space where first-timers and long-time fans alike can feel free to shout, sing, dance, and throw toast with total abandon.

As we prepare for yet another round of Time Warps and Transylvanian madness, we tip our hats (and our garters) to the cast that keeps the spirit of Rocky alive in DeKalb.
