Interview conducted by NIU marketing intern Zander Jones.
ZANDER: What inspired you to join the board of the Egyptian Theatre, and how did you first get involved?
DENISE: I was invited to meet with Alex and the board President to discuss the Egyptian. At the time, I was not well versed in the Egyptian, but during the meeting it became very apparent that the Egyptian Theatre is a rare precious jewel. Our community is very lucky to have a theatre that offers such a wide variety of entertainment and educational opportunities in addition to a venue for our local schools and artists. Needless to say by the end of the meeting, I was hooked, so when they asked if I would be interested in joining the board, my response was a resounding YES.
Z: Can you share a memorable moment or accomplishment during your time as a board member?
D: I had the privilege and honor to serve on the board as secretary during the 6 million dollar expansion. This was a rare opportunity that I will never forget.
Z: Do you have any words of encouragement or advice for the theatre and its future board members?
D: Get involved. You will not regret it. The Egyptian has so many dedicated and wonderful volunteers, which confirms the impact PET has on people.
Z: What will you miss most about being part of our board, and do you have any plans to stay involved in some way?
D: Being involved at the board level. Seeing firsthand how far the Egyptian has come and it’s bright future. The Egyptian will forever have a special place in my heart. I will continue to support PET wherever or however I can.
