Homelessness is not only a national issue but an issue we see here in DeKalb County. The DeKalb Public Library and Hope Haven have come together to show a film that encourages discussion on this topic within our community. On Tuesday, April 7th at 7:00 p.m., the documentary film @home will be shown at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb. Following the hour-long film, Rep. Bob Pritchard, Director Lesly Wicks of Hope Haven, and Director Dan Kenney, of DeKalb County Community Gardens will focus on what we are doing to combat homelessness here in our County. Audience members will have a chance to engage with the panel by asking questions and sharing ideas. Other community organizations, including DCCG, the library, the Youth Services Bureau, Feed ‘em Soup, and Hope Haven, will host an informational table in the foyer of the Egyptian to promote resources available to our county’s homeless population.
@home is a film that follows social e-activist, Mark Horvath, across the country as he talks to homeless people about their own experiences. Today, Mark is the online voice of this cause, and is bringing their stories to millions on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. The @home documentary follows him on a road trip across the country, from Los Angeles to Arkansas to Pittsburgh, as he makes homelessness in America visible.
This film is free and open to the public.
