This event is FREE and open to the public!
The DeKalb Public Library and the Egyptian Theatre present the “Great Souls” film series, a screening of three FREE cultural movies throughout the spring. A panel discussion will be held in late spring to discuss the cultural beliefs and values represented in the films.
This month we will be watching Gandhi (1982). This acclaimed biographical drama presents major events in the life of Mohandas Gandhi (Ben Kingsley), the beloved Indian leader who stood against British rule over his country. Dedicated to the concept of nonviolent resistance, Gandhi is initially dismissed by English officials, including the influential Lord Irwin (John Gielgud), but eventually, he and his cause become internationally renowned, and his gatherings of passive protest move India towards independence.
This movie has a running time of three hours.
This program is made possible by the Brian D. Slavenas Center for Cross-Cultural Understanding. The purpose of the Center is to provide educational materials and programming with information and insight on world cultures to the public.
This series is open to all and intended for adults and mature teens. No registration is required. All films will be shown at the Egyptian Theatre in DeKalb.
