DeKalb Area All District Art Show to be hosted at Egyptian Theatre

Art Show 1

March to Bourbon Street was a tributary event that celebrates the New Orleans jazz scene and is signature to the Mardi Gras event.  This event was an extravaganza that embraces the local art community with connected talents in various art disciplines. This captivating event typical of a big city arts scene was brought to Downtown DeKalb to celebrate the vast array of artistic talent and offering in our community. Along with March to Bourbon Street that celebrates the importance of art, the DeKalb School District All District Art Show is also hosted at the Egyptian Theatre.

The Egyptian Theatre plays a large role in making these events possible and is grateful to be able to provide a space that others find so welcoming. Art is more than what is offered at face value. They are languages that all people speak that cut across racial, cultural, social, educational, and economic barriers and enhance cultural appreciation and awareness. They provide opportunities for self-expression, bringing the inner world into the outer world of concrete reality. They create a seamless connection between motivation, instruction, assessment, and practical application-leading to deep understanding. They improve academic achievement – enhancing test scores, attitudes, social skills, critical and creative thinking.

Supporting and celebrating the arts is important for human expression and gives us an outlet in which to show our individuality and creativity, while bringing people together.  Arts are also a great avenue to allow our youth to expand their minds in a positive environment, grow as individuals and build confidence in themselves. The DeKalb All District Art Show features art from grades K-12. This event brings in over 2,000 community members who are able to float freely through the theatre as they admire the art.

We need to offer more in-depth learning about the things that matter the most: order, integrity, thinking skills, a sense of wonder, truth, flexibility, fairness, dignity, contribution, justice, creativity and cooperation. The arts provide all of these.

The DeKalb All District Art Show  is FREE and will be open to the public May 10-12 from 5:00PM until 8:00PM.
