Get to know Matt and learn more about his hopes for the future in the world of live performance!
JEANINE: What are you looking forward to most about this internship?
MATT: I am looking forward to getting hands-on experience with the different equipment. Being a visual learner, it helps a lot when I get to play with the consoles as I learn how they operate.

J: What does it mean to you to have internships like this in the live entertainment industry?
M: Internships like this mean so much to me. Not everyone has the resources to go back to school and this helps include those groups. Plus on the job training helps me learn the more practical aspects of live entertainment, rather than learning it strictly on paper.

J: Where do you hope the tools and skills you learn during this internship will take you in the future?
M: I’m hoping to take my skills from here and use them in the live theater industry. I truly believe that live theater is one of the greatest art forms, as it brings a community together to support their local venue. Lighting and sound design help those local venues take a show, and highlight the actors’ performance.

J: What first sparked your interest in live sound or lighting design?
M: My interest in lighting design was sparked by seeing community productions throughout my upbringing. As a designer you get to create cool scenes and add symbolism to boost a show’s themes. From the actors on stage, to the audience, you will often hear how awesome a scene looks solely because of the lights used. Plus it looks cool!
