Backstage at the Egyptian: Stephan Huller of ZuZu African Acrobats

Marketing Intern, Pamela, had a chance to chat with Stephan Huller of ZuZu African Acrobats about their upcoming performance here on February 24th. Check out their conversation below.

PAMELA: What does it mean to you bringing two thousand years of history and ancient traditions
from Tanzania around the world?
STEPHAN: It’s an honor and a privilege to showcase the rich cultural heritage of our homeland on an
international stage. Through our performances, we aim to not only entertain but also educate and
inspire audiences about the beauty and diversity of Tanzanian culture. It’s a responsibility we
take very seriously, and we feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to share our heritage with
people from all walks of life across the globe.

P: What is your favorite part about touring?
S: Our favorite part about touring is the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures
and backgrounds through our performances. Traveling to new places allows us to share our
artistry with audiences around the world, spreading joy and inspiration wherever we go. We love
experiencing the excitement and energy of live performances in different cities and countries,
and it’s truly rewarding to see the impact our shows have on people’s lives. Additionally, touring
gives us the chance to explore new places, try new foods, and learn about different customs and
traditions, enriching our own cultural understanding and broadening our horizons.

P: How have you overcome challenges that you face when preparing for performances?
S: Wow. We’ve faced our fair share of challenges when preparing for performances. However,
through resilience, teamwork, and dedication, we’ve managed to overcome them time and time
again. First and foremost, our rigorous training regimen ensures that we’re physically and
mentally prepared for any obstacle that comes our way. Whether it’s mastering a new acrobatic
move or fine-tuning our choreography, we put in countless hours of practice to ensure that our
performances are flawless. Additionally, communication is key. We constantly communicate
with one another to address any issues or concerns that may arise during rehearsals. This open
dialogue allows us to work through problems efficiently and ensures that everyone is on the same
page. Furthermore, we’ve learned to adapt to unexpected circumstances. Whether it’s dealing
with technical difficulties or last-minute changes to our routine, we’ve developed the flexibility
to adjust our performance on the fly. Overall, overcoming challenges is just a part of the journey
for us as the ZuZu Acrobats. We embrace each obstacle as an opportunity to grow and improve,
ultimately enhancing the quality of our performances for our audience to enjoy.

P: What is your most memorable experience as a performer?
S: Pinpointing just one memorable experience is quite the challenge, as we’ve had countless
incredible moments throughout our performance journey. However, if we had to choose, one of
the most memorable experiences for us was performing at a prestigious international circus
festival in Monte Carlo. The energy and excitement of the audience, combined with the
camaraderie of fellow performers from around the world, created an electrifying atmosphere that
we’ll never forget. Stepping onto that stage, feeling the spotlight on us, and knowing that we were
representing our art form on a global scale was truly exhilarating. But what made this
experience truly unforgettable was the overwhelming support and appreciation from the
audience. The thunderous applause, the gasps of amazement, and the standing ovation at the end
of our performance filled us with a sense of pride and gratitude that words can’t adequately
describe. This experience not only validated our hard work and dedication as performers but also
served as a reminder of the power of acrobatics to captivate and inspire audiences from all walks
of life. It’s moments like these that fuel our passion and drive us to continue pushing the
boundaries of our craft, always striving to deliver unforgettable performances that leave a lasting
impression on everyone who watches us.

P: What does it mean to you to perform at the historic Egyptian Theatre?
S: Performing at the historic Egyptian Theatre is an absolute honor for us, the Zuzu Acrobats. It’s
more than just a venue; it’s a symbol of cultural heritage and artistic significance. The Egyptian
Theatre holds a special place in the hearts of performers and audiences alike, with its rich history
and iconic architecture. For us, stepping onto the stage of the Egyptian Theatre is a privilege and
a dream come true. It’s an opportunity to showcase our acrobatic talents in a space that has
hosted countless legendary performances over the years. The thought of following in the
footsteps of so many great artists fills us with a sense of excitement and responsibility.
Performing at such a historic venue also carries a deep sense of respect for the arts and
entertainment industry. It’s a chance for us to pay homage to those who came before us and
paved the way for performers like ourselves. Additionally, the Egyptian Theatre’s reputation for
excellence sets a high standard that motivates us to deliver our very best performance each and
every time we take the stage. But perhaps most importantly, performing at the Egyptian Theatre
allows us to connect with audiences in a meaningful way. We strive to create unforgettable
moments that inspire, entertain, and leave a lasting impression on everyone who experiences our
show. And being able to do so in a venue as esteemed as the Egyptian Theatre is truly a
remarkable opportunity that we cherish deeply.

P: What is one thing you hope the audience takes away from your show?
S: Inspiration. We pour our hearts and souls into every performance, aiming to ignite a spark of
inspiration within each and every person watching. Whether it’s through our daring acrobatic
feats, our synchronized choreography, or the sheer passion we exude on stage, we want our
audience to leave feeling motivated and uplifted. We hope that our show serves as a reminder
that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, and a little bit of courage. Whether someone
dreams of pursuing a career in the arts, overcoming personal challenges, or simply stepping
outside of their comfort zone, we want them to leave our show feeling empowered to chase their
dreams and reach for the stars. Ultimately, we believe that the power of acrobatics extends far
beyond the confines of the stage. It has the ability to inspire, unite, and transform lives, and we
feel privileged to share that experience with each and every person who joins us for our
