Greetings from me to you! I am Michaela Alcantar and I’ll be the new intern this spring here at the wonderful Egyptian Theatre. I’m a senior at Northern Illinois University where I’ll be majoring in Nonprofit and NGO Studies. I moved up to DeKalb from a small suburb south of Chicago to attend NIU and I fell in love with the city. Ever since switching from a Biology major to Nonprofit Studies, my life has been filled with fun and a sense of being a part of a community. A fun fact is that I’ve actually been volunteering with the Egyptian Theatre for a little over two years now! I was looking for a local nonprofit to volunteer with for class credit and when the Egyptian Theatre came up, I didn’t look back. They were and still are very welcoming to new volunteers and made my volunteer experience one I will never forget.
I can’t describe how excited I am to be interning with the Egyptian Theatre and working with everyone in a different perspective. I’m eager to start helping with any way I can and gaining real world experience for future careers. I know the skills that I’ll learn and develop here during my internship will be valuable assets for years to come. Thank you to the Egyptian Theatre for taking me on as this semester’s intern; I greatly appreciate it.
I am also completely grateful to those in the DeKalb County Nonprofit Partnership and in The Center for Nonprofit and NGO studies at NIU for allowing me to be a part of this opportunity. For them to see my potential as a candidate for this program encourages me to do my best and show what I’ve learned.
