We’re ecstatic to introduce Robin Borgione, the Egyptian Theatre’s new Development Director, in this engaging interview conducted by our Marketing Intern, Lia Martinez. Throughout the interview, Robin introduces herself through ways she enjoys spending her free time, values she holds herself accountable for and advice she’d offer to people seeking a position similar to hers. Keep reading to also find out what she’s looking forward to working on in the upcoming Give Dekalb County event on May 1st!
Lia: Being a new member of the Egyptian Theatre staff, could you share some ways you enjoy spending your free time doing?
Robin: Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three kids (ages 14, 11 & 4). We love cooking/trying new foods together, spending time outside and watching movies. I also like trying out different crafts in my free time, especially sewing.
L: What values do you hold yourself accountable for outside of the working environment that you’d advise others to keep in mind?
R: I value honesty, transparency and communication most in life. I think it’s important that everyone feels heard and understood and, whether at home or at work, I always want to foster an environment where everyone can feel comfortable to be themselves.
L: What advice would you give to someone looking to fill a position such as yours?
R: I think no matter what your role is, it’s important to stay curious. There is always something you can learn, and I think keeping that mindset makes for a more positive experience – even at times when things don’t go as planned.
L: How has the working atmosphere and community impacted your perception of the Egyptian Theatre’s culture?
R: When I had the opportunity to meet several staff members during my interview, I came away with such a good feeling about the team I would be joining. I can honestly say, my initial perception has been the reality and I consider myself extremely lucky to be here. There is inherent pride in the work each of us engages in. The formula makes for a fun, collaborative and respectful environment where we’re able to pull off some pretty incredible feats together. It’s the definition of work hard, play hard.
L: What about Give Dekalb County are you most looking forward to working on this year?
R: I am excited to have started right before we kick-off plans for this critical component of our annual fundraising program. I am blown away with how robust and connected this nonprofit world is in DeKalb county. At the theatre, we have an especially unique opportunity to make an even bigger community impact because of our partnership with other local nonprofit organizations.
