Interview with Gather’s Deb Boughton. The Egyptian is excited to host their upcoming event Gather & Ghosts on Wednesday, October 13th.
KAMAL: How did Gather come to be?
DEB: Gather was dreamed up one day when I was talking to Jennifer Groce about how do women connect with other women in our community. We pitched the idea to the DeKalb Chamber of Commerce and thus, was born, Gather.
K: What is Gather’s mission/goals?
D: 2021 is Gather’s fourth year as a women’s leadership community that helps strengthen the overall business and non-profit community in the DeKalb area. The 2021 calendar includes events focused on connecting, inspiring, and informing women through educational presentations and fun experiences. Gather also offers the opportunity to give back and help mentor high school and college aged women in the community. All women are invited to consider becoming a member.
K: What programs do you offer at Gather?
D: We offer a series of events that focus on connecting the women of the DeKalb area to each other. During the pandemic, we offered virtual programming, but not that we are getting back in person a majority of our events are in person. Our events list can be found here.
K: What community do you predominantly serve?
D: We predominantly serve the women in our community. Men can support our organization by encouraging women in the lives to become Gather members and/or become annual sponsors of Gather. Sponsorships help us put on amazing events for our members as well as provide scholarship for women to join Gather.
K: How can someone become a member?
D: New and renewing members can sign-up through the DeKalb Chamber website. We will be announcing our 2022 calendar of events at the Athena Awards Ceremony which will be held on October 19, 2021.
