Lights….Camera…Action! It’s time to introduce the new Fall 2021 Intern for the Egyptian Theatre…Kamal Singh!
Hello guys I am Kamal! I am a senior at Northern Illinois University, graduating this December with a bachelor’s in Political Science and minoring in LGBTQ Studies and NGO Nonprofit Studies! With this, I want to advocate for the LGBTQ youth by pushing policies that would work for their behalf. In pursuit of this, I found the Nonprofit sector, and it just clicked. Having my education surrounded by these topics just made sense. And finding out that the Egyptian Theatre works very closely with the LGBTQ+ community, working with them would allow me to work on projects for the community and the Theatre.
Coming from an Indian family, musicals, movies, and the arts have always influenced me. I grew up watching Bollywood movies, with lots of dance and music; I fell in love ever since when it comes to American Musicals such as Hamilton and In The Heights and my recent faves! So being a part of a theatre just excites me!
This fall, I want to learn the inner workings of a Nonprofit. How an event comes together and what goes into it. I also want to work closely with the Pride committee and help plan upcoming events. I want to spread more awareness and gain more support for them to reach a greater audience.
Getting this internship is so special to me. I am beyond grateful and lucky to have found the Egyptian Theatre, where I will work on furthering the LGBTQ+ agenda in DeKalb, learning how day-to-day operations work, and obtain so much more knowledge that will be very beneficial to me in my future. Now let us get to work!
