Interview conducted by Marketing Intern Sammie Musielak with Building & Grounds Supervisor Peter Lindsey.
SAMMIE: Why did you originally decide to apply at the Egyptian?
PETER: I was looking for a change in my career, and the opportunity came at the right moment. I am an entertainer and made a point to have my day job in the entertainment industry, and working at the Egyptian seemed like the perfect fit. Also, the entire entertainment industry has been hurting with COVID and they need dedicated people. I wanted to do everything I could to help out.
S: What has been your favorite event you have gotten to help with at the Egyptian so far?
P: The OCB bodybuilding competition was inspiring. I’ve never been around so many people that are so disciplined and dedicated to their goals.
S: What does a typical day look like for you at the Egyptian?
P: There is no typical day for me, which is nice. It is a 91 year old theatre and full of different maintenance tasks to get done, plus I get to watch other entertainers showcase their talents.
S: What is the best part of your job?
P: The best part of my job is, without a doubt, the wonderful staff and volunteers that I am fortunate enough to work with!
S: Do you have any favorite memories so far?
P: There are a lot, but what comes to mind is whenever I’m changing the marquee and folks walking by stop to chat. It feels good to be a part of something that the community cares so much about.
S: Have you worked at a nonprofit organization before?
P: I have never worked for a nonprofit before. It feels good. I used to work for a giant corporation, which has its advantages, but I prefer where I am now. I feel more like an engine than just a gear.
S: Have you learned anything from your job so far?
P: I have learned plenty, and also relearned plenty of skills that I haven’t used in a while. Every day I go to work at the Egyptian Theatre, I am reminded how valuable it is to be passionate about what you do, and who you work for. I could not be happier with my decision to work here!
