Backstage at Egyptian: Ronnie Negro of EagleMania

Backstage at the Egyptian is going behind the music with EagleMania as they prepare to bring the timeless sound of the Eagles to our historic stage. Our Marketing Intern, Myah Mackey, connected with drummer Ronnie Negro to talk about his journey with the band, what it means to honor such iconic music, and how performing in a 100-year-old theatre like the Egyptian elevates the entire experience.

MYAH: What inspired you to become part of EagleMania, and what keeps you connected to the Eagles’ music?
RONNIE: The band formed over 15 years ago and it was already well established when I began performing with them as a substitute drummer in 2016. A few years ago the original drummer departed and the band asked me to be a full member. Having already personally known and liked the other members and the high respect I had for their outstanding musicianship and professionalism made the decision to come aboard an easy one! I grew up with the music of the Eagles, so it is a thrill to have the privilege to perform so many of their classic songs with such a great group of talented individuals.

M: What does performing as a tribute artist mean to you personally and professionally?
R: Playing in a tribute band means taking a great amount of care in faithfully replicating the iconic songs that we, and the audience, know and love from the original artists. The parts were well thought out, rehearsed, and recorded a long time ago. Our job, individually and as a group, is to really get inside every detail that made these songs so great. The creative parts were already done for us, now we are tasked with replicating them with as much authenticity as possible. So on both a personal and a professional level, it’s about having the pride and discipline to put in the time and effort it takes to not only learn all this classic material but to also be so comfortable in playing it that you are able to give a confident and convincing performance on stage every time.

M: How does performing in historic venues like the Egyptian Theatre enhance your performance experience?
R: Places like the Egyptian Theatre that are nearly 100 years old have architectural features that have us in awe the moment we pull up! Once we enter, the beautiful and ornate details of the interior give an even greater air of gravitas to the show we are getting ready to play. We all love using any downtime before or after our soundcheck to explore the theatre and its surrounding area to take in all the sights and history. And it’s also such a thrill to get to play on the same stage that many of our musical heroes have! Our dressing rooms were their dressing rooms!

M: What do you hope audiences take away after attending an EagleMania show at the Egyptian Theatre?
R: We don’t try to look like or dress like the real Eagles on stage. We are just seven guys who love and respect the music and our goal is nothing less than you being able to close your eyes and think you are at an Eagles concert. But don’t close your eyes! We have so much fun while performing and it shows on our faces and in our interaction with each other and the audience. You will feel transported back to the days you first heard these songs. The show has a perfect flow, you’ll be singing along with every song and by the end we guarantee you’ll be on your feet dancing. We hope your take away from our show is that you got more than your money’s worth and that you can’t wait to tell your friends.
