We strive to make every attendee welcome and comfortable here at the Egyptian Theatre. We have made many improvements to this 1929 historic theatre to make the building more accommodating for all. We have more to be done and continue to work on more improvements every year.

Getting to the Egyptian Theatre

City of DeKalb Transit System Routes 16 and 17 provide bus access to Downtown DeKalb with stops half a block from the front door of the Egyptian Theatre.

Parking

There are four handicapped parking spaces available in the Van Buer Plaza parking lot located directly across the street from the theatre. This is a free public parking lot. There is an ADA accessible path from the parking lot to the front doors of the theatre.

The sidewalk underneath the marquee may also be used for drop-off and pick-up.

Entering the Theatre

The public entrance for everyone is located at 135 N. 2nd Street in downtown DeKalb.
Our front door widths are ADA compliant.
An assistive door opener is available on the far right door at the main entrance.
Transport wheelchairs are available upon request at the front doors to assist patrons to their seats. These are not available to remain seated in throughout an event.

All accessible seating is on the main floor. View the seating map here.

Wheelchair accessible seating with companion seats are available on the main floor. This seating is located in the front row on house left and house right as well as at the rear of the center section on the main floor.
Transfer seats are also available in multiple locations throughout the main floor.
Single-occupant bench seating is available, intended for any patron in need of additional space for comfort or others with special accessibility needs. These seats have a padded, fabric-covered seat (measuring 30″ W x 17″ D) with a 750 lb capacity, a padded back, and armrests.
Accessible seating with access to power is available upon request in advance.
Adult seat cushions are available upon request for patrons that may desire some additional height to their seat or require additional cushioning while seated.
Walkers, crutches, or other mobility devices that cannot be safely stored in your seating area without blocking any aisles or emergency exits will need to be stored in the lobby. Please have someone in your party take care of this for you or notify an usher that you require assistance.
Any patrons requiring special assistance should contact the box office at (815) 758-1225 in advance to make arrangements.

Newly renovated restrooms on the first floor are ADA compliant.

The men’s restroom includes one wheelchair accessible stall, one ambulatory stall, an ADA urinal, and ADA sinks, soap dispensers, and hand dryers.
The women’s restroom includes two wheelchair accessible stalls, one ambulatory stall, and ADA sinks, soap dispensers, and hand dryers.
Baby changing stations are also available in the men’s and women’s restrooms ADA stalls on the first floor.

There is a wheelchair accessible station on the west end of the main floor concession stand (adjacent to the restroom entrance).
Printed menus are available at each station for anyone that is visually impaired or needs one for ease of ordering.
Ushers are available to help carry your items back to your seat if you should need the assistance.
An ADA compliant drinking fountain is available on the main floor at the restroom entrance.

Trained service animals are welcome in the Egyptian Theatre.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines a service animal as any dog individually trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability. An animal fitting this description is considered a service animal under the ADA regardless of whether the animal is certified by a particular entity or wearing identifying markers.

We may ask whether the animal is a service animal and inquire as to what tasks the service animal has been trained to perform. In accordance with ADA, we will never require identification documents for the animal or ask about the person’s disability.

Emotional support animals and pets are not allowed.
