A Night of Music & Impact: 9th Annual Jazz at the Egyptian Raises Over $3,000 for Local Schools

On Saturday, February 7th, the historic Egyptian Theatre once again came alive with the sounds of brass, rhythm, and improvisation as we hosted the 9th Annual Jazz at the Egyptian — a night dedicated to celebrating student musicians and supporting music education right here in our community.

This year’s concert brought together an incredible lineup of talent, featuring Jazz in Progress, the jazz ensembles from DeKalb High School and Sycamore High School, and the NIU Jazz Orchestra. From the first note to the final standing ovation, the evening showcased the depth of artistry and dedication that exists across DeKalb County’s music programs.

One of the most special elements of Jazz at the Egyptian is the opportunity it provides for students to perform on a professional stage in a historic theatre setting. For many of these young musicians, stepping onto the Egyptian stage is both an exciting milestone and an inspiring experience. Sharing the spotlight with fellow students and the NIU Jazz Orchestra creates a powerful sense of connection — from high school ensembles to collegiate performers — and highlights the bright future of jazz in our region.

Beyond the music, the impact of this event continues to grow.

Thanks to the generous support of our patrons, sponsors, and community members, this year’s concert raised more than $3,000 to be donated directly back to the participating school music programs. With this year’s contribution, Jazz at the Egyptian has now generated over $25,000 in total donations over the past nine years.

That means instruments repaired. Sheet music purchased. Opportunities expanded. Students supported.

Jazz at the Egyptian is more than a concert — it’s a community investment in the arts and in the young people who carry that tradition forward. We are proud to continue this partnership with our local schools and Northern Illinois University, and we are grateful to everyone who helps make this night possible year after year.

Thank you for supporting live music, arts education, and the next generation of performers. We can’t wait to see you at next year’s 10th Annual Jazz at the Egyptian.
