Renovation Projects

Current Projects
Nearly 30 years have passed since the last major renovation of the Egyptian Theatre started back in 1982. A lot of work has been completed over the past few years but we still have some significant projects ahead of us.  In the late 70s, Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre (P.E.T.) formed to save the theatre from destruction. Ever since. P.E.T. is here to address the issues that affect this jewel of DeKalb.  As with any historic building, there will always be maintenance, restoration, preservation, upgrades and improvements that are needed.

Some of the major projects that will be addressed in the next few years include:

  • Adding Air Conditioning
  • Replacing the carpet throughout the theatre
  • Renovating the concessions stand
  • Expanding the restrooms and box office
  • Repairing decorative plaster and paint work inside the auditorium

Past Projects
Thanks to the support of the community we have been able to accomplish many projects over the last few years.  Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre (P.E.T.) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and relies on the support of the community to continue the legacy of this great theatre. Donations are tax deductible and help us not only bring quality performing arts and film programs to DeKalb, but also help with the preservation and restoration of the theatre. Here is a list of just some of the projects that have been completed in recent years.

  • Major renovation of the dressing rooms
  • Replaced the theatre seats
  • Replaced the theatre sound system
  • Replaced the building fire alarm system
  • Significant restoration work on the ornamental plasterwork and decorative painting in the lobby areas
  • Much needed repair to the stained glass window in the front of the building
  • Replacement of the roof over the stage, lobby area, marquee and auditorium
  • Extensive work on the building boiler system
  • Retro-fit of the lighting control system
